Small size current sensor - [Vekwei] - reduces volume by 50%, 3.5mm ²

ROHM recently announced the launch of the industry's smallest contactless deviceSmall size current sensorBM14270MUV-LB。 It achieves very low power loss and almost no heat generation in an ultra compact size, making it an ideal choice for industrial and consumer equipment that detects working conditions through current, including battery powered drones, solar systems, and high-power servers in data centers.

In recent years, the global awareness of energy conservation, safety, and environmental regulations has been continuously increasing, requiring improved security measures and power measurement in high-power applications such as data center servers and solar energy systems. This leads to an increase in demand for current sensors. However, traditional current sensors using Hall elements usually have the characteristics of high current consumption and low sensitivity, so it is necessary to introduce current inside the sensing element. Therefore, so far, there is no compact (3.5mm2) current sensor with high reliability and low loss available on the market.

ROHM has developed a current sensor that utilizes high-sensitivity low current MI components to achieve completely contactless current detection. BM14270MUV-LB is developed by combining ROHM's leading semiconductor production and sensor control technology with Aichi Steel's MI (magnetic impedance) components. The result is a contactless current sensor that does not require current consumption within the sensor to measure current. The sensor itself consumes very low current (0.07mA -100 times smaller than traditional products) and is the smallest size in the industry (3.5mm2). In addition, the interference magnetic field elimination function is used to prevent noise and make shielding unnecessary. The digital output of the built-in A/D converter reduces the load on the MCU and facilitates current monitoring. These features allow users to easily detect the current of almost any high reliability application, from compact battery driven devices to high-power industrial equipment.
