Monitoring devices are quite difficult.Larger wires are not easily bent and often bounce back to their original shape when force is applied.Typically, in control cabinets, distribution panels, and other distribution centers, heavier loads may use busbars instead of cables.

Using solid current sensing devices in any of these applications means threading a conductor through a loop and then onto the load terminal, which is almost impossible when the conductor is a solid strip.The split core sensor allows for the installation of wires first, followed by the installation of the sensor.If the load is powered by the busbar, the sensor can easily slide over the busbar.

Usually, using multiple wires per phase can carry a large amount of current.The main requirement is to have sufficient space to allow the induction ring to completely surround the conductor.Binding the cable with nylon ties can help keep the conductor in one position when installing the sensor.Good operating habits will keep the tie in place to prevent the conductor from bouncing outward and applying excessive force to the side of the induction ring.

Why spend a lot of effort monitoring the current?

Although many designated engineers require power monitoring and simultaneous measurement of voltage and current for power factor measurement, measuring current alone can effectively represent the power used.

If the current waveform is not a pure sine wave, for example, using a variable frequency inverter or a phase angle ignition heating controller will generate a sine wave, then using an RMS response sensor will be more accurate.With this additional signal regulation, the output of the sensor has almost no ripple and maintains high accuracy, regardless of whether the current is smooth, uniform, or truncated.

Most large pumps, compressor motors, and fan loads are driven by frequency converters to save power and reduce mechanical stress during start-up by operating the drive motors only at the optimal speed to complete the work.Using RMS measurement values instead of average response sensors can help reduce troubleshooting during initial control system debugging by displaying accurate signals in all situations.
