Russian Mi-24 shot down, Germany sends Ukraine 500 'Stingers'

After Ukraine refused to engage in peace talks with Russia and Putin ordered the main force of the Russian military to continue advancing, after a night of bloody fighting, the Russian military achieved fruitful results. Not only did the Russian military besiege Kiev accelerate its progress, but the Russian military on the eastern front also successfully entered the city of Kharkiv, representing the Russian military's heavy handed preparations to deal with the heavy troops of the 10 brigades currently gathered by the Ukrainian government on the eastern front. In the Kharkiv region, the Ukrainian 302nd Air Defense Missile Regiment equipped with the "Buk M1" air defense system even voluntarily laid down their weapons and surrendered, with 471 Ukrainian government soldiers surrendering.

Of course, during this period, the losses of the Russian military also began to increase significantly. In the Kherson region, a Russian Mi-24 "Hind" armed helicopter flying at low altitude to carry out ground attack missions was directly shot down by a shoulder mounted portable air defense missile of the Ukrainian government army. This is also the third confirmed Russian armed helicopter that has been shot down through public channels so far.

On February 24th, during a strong attack by Russian air raid forces on Antonov Airport, two Russian Ka-52 armed helicopters were hit by Ukrainian government shoulder launched portable air defense missiles. One Ka-52 was blasted in mid air, while the other successfully made an emergency landing after being damaged on the left side of the fuselage.

In the propaganda of European and American media, the "achievements" of these three Russian armed helicopters are all attributed to the American made "Stinger" shoulder mounted portable air defense missiles provided by Europe and America. Equally praised by European and American media for their impressive record of destroying a large number of Russian T-72 and T-80 main battle tanks, there is also the American made "Javelin" anti tank missile. This has also led to subsequent weapons and ammunition assistance from Europe and America to Ukraine, mainly focused on two types of weapons: shoulder mounted portable air defense missiles and anti tank weapons.

On February 27th, Germany agreed for the first time to provide offensive weapons to the Ukrainian government army, offering 1000 anti tank ammunition and 500 American made Stinger shoulder portable air defense missiles. Prior to this, Germany had only provided 5000 military helmets and one field hospital to the Ukrainian government army. At the same time, Lithuania also provided some of its own "Javelin" anti tank missiles purchased from the United States to the Ukrainian government army.

The 1000 anti tank ammunition provided by Germany is mainly the "Iron Fist 3" anti tank rocket launcher. The "Iron Fist 3" anti tank rocket launcher is a disposable rocket launcher used by the German army since 1992. It uses 110mm ultra caliber rockets and is thrown away after firing, but the aiming/firing components can be disassembled and reused.

The armor piercing thickness of the "Iron Fist 3" anti tank rocket launcher can reach a level of 700 millimeters, but because it is an unguided ammunition, its hit rate during long-range attacks is closely related to the shooter. For the Russian military, the biggest threat of "Iron Fist 3" is being ambushed at close range during urban warfare, otherwise there would be no problem.

At present, the biggest threat to the Russian military is the "Stinger" shoulder portable air defense missile. As of now, the Russian military has not yet extensively used long-range artillery to provide fire support for ground troops, and the Russian Air Force has relatively few fighter jets deployed. Therefore, the Russian military uses a large number of armed helicopters such as the Ka-52 and Mi-24 to provide fire support for ground troops.

Unlike air defense missile systems such as S-300 and "Buk", which have larger targets and are more easily detected and destroyed by the Russian military. The "Stinger" shoulder mounted portable air defense missile mainly relies on infrared heat sources for guidance, and individual soldiers can carry and launch it, making it more difficult to detect and destroy.

And currently, Putin has strictly ordered the Russian military not to attack sensitive areas such as residential areas and schools in Ukraine, but most of the Ukrainian government forces are hiding there. Although Russian armed helicopters can also penetrate deep into it to strike Ukrainian government forces, the Ukrainian government forces can also use "Stinger" shoulder mounted portable air defense missiles to ambush Russian armed helicopters under the cover of high-rise buildings in residential areas.

The maximum range of the "Stinger" shoulder mounted portable air defense missile is 5 kilometers, with a maximum altitude of 3 kilometers. This attack range is basically limited to evasion and hard resistance by Russian armed helicopters, and cannot be escaped by flight speed.

Although the warhead of the "Stinger" portable air defense missile carried on the shoulder weighs only 1 kilogram, and the protection capabilities of the Russian military's Ka-52 and Mi-24 armed helicopters are relatively good. But if it is hit by multiple "stingers" at the same time, or if the rocket or missile carried by it is detonated by the "stingers", it cannot escape danger.

After the United States provided the Afghan guerrillas with "Stinger" shoulder portable air defense missiles, the Afghan guerrillas launched a total of 340 "Stinger" shoulder portable air defense missiles, of which 269 hit the target, with a hit rate of about 79%. If calculated based on this hit rate, if all 500 "Stinger" air defense missiles provided by Germany to Ukraine can be launched, about 395 of them will be able to hit their targets, which is a huge disaster for the Russian military.

Does Germany believe that with these 500 "Stinger" shoulder mounted portable air defense missiles and 1000 "Iron Fist 3" anti tank rocket launchers, the Ukrainian government army can withstand the Russian attack? Of course not! European and American countries, including Germany, already know that Ukraine cannot withstand the attack of the Russian army. At this time, choosing to provide these ammunition to the Ukrainian government army is just hoping that the Ukrainian government army can bite some more flesh from the Russian army, causing greater casualties and losses for the Russian army.

This is not a help to Ukraine, the real help to Ukraine is to facilitate peace talks between Ukraine and Russia as much as possible and achieve a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Instead of sending weapons at this time, encouraging both sides to fight more fiercely and causing greater casualties and losses, this behavior is essentially no different from arms dealers.
