The submarine known as the 'carrier killer'??

Submarines, as assassins in the sea, are extremely powerful in terms of their level of secrecy and attack. Even since their inception, submarines have been dubbed as "carrier killers". Although there are significant differences in submarines between countries, it cannot be denied that submarine manufacturing technology is constantly improving. It can even be said that nuclear submarines have become one of the more concentrated components of national defense weapons. So, which country has the strongest modern submarine manufacturing technology? This topic has always been controversial, and if we must clarify this issue, we need to divide it into two aspects: nuclear submarines and conventional submarines. In terms of nuclear submarines, it cannot be denied that the United States is the most advanced in terms of manufacturing experience and technological development, while in terms of conventional submarines, Russia, Germany, France, Japan, China, and Sweden each have their own strengths. If viewed from a holistic perspective, the design and construction system of submarines can fully reflect the level of a country's defense forces and industrial system. The most important thing is that submarines involve the supply chain of the entire industrial system. Although many people claim how powerful their country's submarines are with just one blueprint, it is not easy from a construction perspective.

From the current perspective of submarine design and manufacturing, there are many more countries that can independently build conventional submarines than those that can manufacture nuclear submarines. This ratio even exceeds that of countries that can independently manufacture third-generation fighter jets. This also indicates that the manufacturing process of submarines is much lower than that of fighter jets. At the same time, due to technological and economic constraints, many countries have shifted their research direction to the research and development capabilities of conventional submarines. If there are special needs, they will also cooperate with other developed countries. At present, there are many countries with the best conventional submarine construction technology, but Germany must be mentioned here. The submarine warfare launched by this country during World War II can be said to be a very classic example. As a long-standing conventional submarine power in the world, even after the war, Germany quickly rose in the manufacturing capability of conventional submarines. Although it experienced many setbacks at that time, from the perspective of exporting conventional submarines, Germany's 209 and 214 submarines are still the best-selling conventional submarines in the world. Germany's unique Type 212 conventional submarine is also recognized as one of the most advanced submarines in the world, and other countries in Europe have strong capabilities in manufacturing conventional submarines, such as the French designed "Croaker class" submarine, which is also recognized as one of the most cost-effective submarines in the world. In addition, Sweden, as the world's earliest manufacturer of the AIP submarine "Gotland" and the Collins class submarine exported to Australia, has strong design and manufacturing capabilities.

Apart from Europe, Russia's conventional submarine design and manufacturing capabilities are impeccable, and as a leading figure in the submarine industry, their level is also evident. Although modern military scholars have many controversies about Russian made weapons, it cannot be denied that Russia still has a few brushes with the former Soviet Union. Currently, Japan is also one of the submarine powers. Although its own "Soryu" class submarine bid failed, it does not mean that Japan's submarines are technologically inferior to other countries. After talking about Japan, I have to mention the legendary "stealing country" South Korea. Although this country is a big civil shipbuilding country, it is "bringing doctrine" for submarines, which is not much different from India, Brazil and Türkiye. Generally, it purchases production licenses and manufacturing drawings from other countries, and then completes the construction with the help of foreign companies. This is embarrassing. At present, countries with strong submarine manufacturing capabilities generally include Russia, Germany, Sweden, China, and France. As for nuclear submarines, the United States currently has almost no opponents, which is also a very regrettable thing. At present, there are relatively few nuclear submarines that can be played with, and only the five major countries can achieve it. However, India may also join this ranks in the future, but the quality is still worrying, so there is no high expectation. The development direction of modern submarines has gradually shifted from defensive to miniaturized offensive. In the future, submarines will even be produced in the form of unmanned submarines. The advantage of doing so is that it can greatly increase the stealth time and will not be affected by water pressure, making their movements more mysterious in the future.
